Classes

Two disciplines,
one standard.

Reformer on the machines, mat on the floor. Fifty and forty-five minutes, small groups, and an instructor who can see every body in the room.

If you have never seen one

What a reformer actually is

A reformer is a low wooden bed with a sliding carriage, a set of springs underneath and a bar and straps at either end. You push, pull and hold against the springs while lying, sitting, kneeling or standing on it.

The springs do two things at once: they give you resistance to work against, and they support you so your joints do not take the load. That is why it builds strength without the impact of a gym floor, and why it suits athletes, people recovering from injury and people who have never exercised, often in the same class.

You do not need to be flexible, fit or experienced to start. You need grip socks, which we sell at reception.

Foundations

Your first weeks on the machine. The instructor sets your springs, names each part as you use it, and slows the sequence down until the movement is yours. Everyone starts here, including people who train hard elsewhere.

Flow

The signature class and the one most members live on. Full body, continuous, low impact, with the springs changing underneath you rather than the pace. You will feel it tomorrow in places you did not know about.

Strength

Heavier springs, longer holds and less recovery between sequences. For members who already have the technique and want the work. Come to Flow for a month or two first.

On the mat

No machine,
nowhere to hide.

Classical mat work for deep core strength, posture and control — forty-five minutes of your own body weight and nothing to help you cheat. It is the oldest half of the method and, most people find, the harder one.

Before you arrive

Your first class

Arrive early

Twenty minutes before your first class. There is a lounge, and the instructor will want to ask about injuries and anything you are working around.

Grip socks

The only thing you need to bring, and we sell them at reception if you forget. Wear something you can move and bend in.

Your springs are set

The instructor sets the resistance for your body before you start and changes it through the class. You never have to guess.

You leave taller

Almost everyone does. Book the second class before the first one wears off — that is when it starts to stick.

Not a group person?

Private and semi-private

One to one at 12,000 ETB a session, or semi-private for two at 8,000 ETB each. Packs of four and eight bring that down to 10,000 and 6,500 a session, and they run on the reformer or the mat, whichever suits the work.
